As a non-resident or in-state transfer student, you pay ASU for on-campus tuition and fees, housing and meals. Books and supplies, transportation, and personal expenses depend on your spending choices and should be budgeted into your college expenses. You can get scholarships for a variety of reasons – GPA, residency status, achievements and more. Find out which you qualify for and apply.

You can apply for scholarships through your ASU college, school or academic department. Scholarship amounts and eligibility requirements vary, and awards are generally limited to only those students pursuing a degree in a particular academic program.

ASU offers the New American University Transfer Scholarship for non-Arizona resident transfer students who meet high academic standards and have financial need. Students must submit an application and complete the FAFSA on file by March 1 or October 1 for spring for priority consideration.

Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid each year to see how much federal aid (grants, work-study, loans) you qualify for. Generally, the FAFSA is available on October 1 each year; However, due to updates to the FAFSA, the 2024-2025 FAFSA is expected to be available in December 2023 (and not in October). For students starting in the spring or summer of 2024, the 2023-2024 FAFSA is open. The earlier you apply, the more support you will receive.

After filing the FAFSA, check your email and priority tasks in My ASU frequently — you’ll be notified here if ASU needs additional documents to verify the FAFSA. Students starting ASU in the spring who have already submitted a FAFSA for the year must add ASU to the FAFSA. ASU’s federal school code is 001081.

ASU Specific Transfer Scholarships do not require you to be enrolled full-time. It depends proportionally on how many credit hours you take:

If you qualify for an ASU Specific Transfer Scholarship, you will be eligible to pay in-state tuition at ASU for the entirety of your scholarship.

If you begin full-time enrollment and fall below 12 credits on or before the university’s census date (the 12th grade day in a regular semester), the scholarship payment will be prorated. This can create a balance due to the university.
